Magic

Magic in the world of Vesmir is not the strange and mystical thing it is elsewhere, its more akin to athletic talent in the modern world. Many people manifest what is referred to as the “arcane spark”, but not all are given the opportunity (or have the desire) to nuture it.

It has long been known that changing the world through the repeated use of magic could have unintended consequences. After the defeat of the masters in the waste, people finally learned and understood the truly grave ecological damage being wrought by their over dependence on magic. This knowledge, combined with the elves removing themselves from hiding, has resulted in “traditional” magic falling out of favor, replaced instead with many new schools of magic. These new schools each try to find another way to deal with the entropic backlash that mystical energies cause, some internalize the counter effects, while others shunt the ecological responsibility on other creatures.
